GSB Presents "Guilford Citizens' Day Parade" on 9/21
Sep 23, 2013 |
The 2013 Guilford Citizens' Day parade will step off on September 21 at 10:00am.
Perhaps no region of the country better encompasses the Autumn Season more than New England. This fall, Guilford Savings Bank will once again help to bring the best of the season to our Shoreline Community on Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 am, as the bank presents the Guilford Citizens' Day Parade.
The local community, which lines the route from Whitfield to Boston Street for the celebration, will be treated to over 50 marching groups derived from local schools, businesses and charitable organizations alike. Lavishly decorated and themed floats representing the fourth grade classes from Guilford’s Elementary schools will make their usual appearance, as will local and state elected representatives.
“Guilford Savings Bank is honored to be the presenting sponsor for this year’s Parade” says Margaret Livingston, bank President and CEO. “We’re even more pleased that the local community continues to come out and enjoy the celebration of the new season year after year.”
Originally funded by donations, Guilford Savings Bank became presenting sponsor over 15 years ago and helped to make the Parade an annual success.
“Serving our local community is at the forefront of what we do and how we operate.” says COO Timothy Geelan. “To be able to come out and not only sponsor the event, but to be right in the middle participating and enjoying it with our people alongside us is truly a rewarding experience.”
The parade committee, comprised of volunteers from the community and led by Frank Ifkovic and Stephen Page, begins preparing for the parade months ahead of time. “It all comes down to that morning” said Page. “We work very hard in the months leading up to September to make sure we put on the best parade we can.”
Awards for creativity, costume design and best use of props are awarded to add a bit of fun and friendly competition, making the Parade a truly memorable experience for those who get to both watch and take part in it. This year’s theme is “Guilford Treasures”. A map of the parade route can be found here.
